a man convicted of sexually assaulting a shopper. >> a heated debate after taking a stand against gay marriage. >> a do-or-die situation for the nats. baseball fans are still keeping hope alive. >> good evening, we begin tonight with the fact that police are stepping up patrols on a popular bike trail. they're doing this after a series of attack and robberies on that trail. shomari stone is along the capital crescent trainow with more on this story. >> reporter: montgomery county police have stepped up patrols to keep it safe. people who live and work in the area tell me they're concerned. tonight, montgomery county police tell me two of the three attacks may be linked. last week, police arrested a teenager and charged him with

assault and attempted robbery. he allegedly grabbed and beat up two teens. we're now learning this attack might be linked to a july 20th tunnel robbery. police believe they've aregsed rested all the suspects involved. people wlo live and work in the area are working and keeping a close eye on what's going on around them. >> it's insane. i couldn't believe it. i couldn't believe those attacks happened. i'm in the area all of the time. i just could not believe it. >> reporter: montgomery county police have made one arrest on an attack that happened on july 6th. but they say that attack is not related to the other two cases. along the capital crescent trail, shomari stone, news 4. >> tonight, the search is only for suspects after a deadly shooting near gallaudet university in the northeast. a police officer heard shots near the 1100 block of 8th street. the victim was taken to the hospital where he died.

friends were devastated when they heard the news. >> she was like a cousin to me. he always put a smile on my face. after school, i would look for him to get off the bus and say something smart to me. >> police say no students were involved and gallaudet university was never locked down. >> surveillance video shows a man proumi man prowling in zej of a victim. they say he stalked a stranger two years ago and then attacked her as she crossed connecticut avenue. today, he was sentenced to 40 years in prison for forcing the woman into a wooded area where he sexually assaulted her. that victim fought back and got away. >> now, another victim has come forward claiming she was fondled by a man on a residential street. it's the sixth case that police have identified in just over a month. she was walking on cumberland

drive when a man approached her from behind, grabbed her and groped her. investigators think re victims could be out there. controversy on campus. an administrator at gallaudet university is on paid leave tonight after taking a stand on same-sex marriages. jim rosenfield is outside the school with reaction from students. hi, jim? >> reporter: hi hi, doreen. it's a hot-button issue. do you support legislation that legalizes same-sex marriage in the state. tonight, the associate provost fie find herself in big trouble. >> everyone is sbientitled to l and rcht. >> as a pastor, my support for question 6 is rooted in my belief that the government

should treat everyone equally. >> reporter: ads for and against question 6 flooding the air waves. now, gallaudet university is in hot water for reportedly signing a petition this past summer calling for putting question 6 on the ballot. in a statement today announcing that dr. mckaskel is put on leave. it recently came to my attention that dr. mccaskill has participated in a legislative initiative. however, other individuals feel differently. i will use the extended time while she is on administrative leave to determine the appropriate next steps. we tried to reach out to dr. mccsmc mccaskill but got no answer.

area. but not as cold as it could get. radar, no rain to show you. this cold front made its way throh fairly dry. we just saw a few clouds roll through. here are those clouds. the clouds continuing to stream off towards the east. now starting to see some clearing. that's going to help us with our cooling trend as we make our way through the morning hours. here's the front right now over the delmarva. the cool weather settles on in. that area is going to bring us plenty of sunshine. it still brings us 10 degrees below. on friday, guess what, another frontal boundary moves in. this is the one that's really going to bring in some colder air. we're talking about, for some of us, especially for the north and west, below freezing for the first time this winter. first time this fall, as far as the season is concerned. we're talking about the coldest nighting with friday night into
